LO1: Analysis of movie teaser trailers

Purpose
The purpose of the Kill List trailer is to promote the film in question and to attract an audience to go watch it, based on what they have seen in the trailer.
Form
The form of this video is a film trailer for the film kill list directed by Ben Wheatley. It follows a non-linear path so that doesn't reveal too much of the films story.
Content and Meaning
In the Kill List trailer we can see an arrange of different locations throughout. One such example denotes an underground tunnel. This connotes fear and isolation which are classic conventions of the horror genre as these are used to show when the characters are in some form of danger which the scene in the trailer could be foreshadowing. The effect on the audience could be that they feel scared for what may happen to the characters. Costumes are another important aspect to look at. One such example is where the main character is denoted as wearing a formal suit, this could connote class and wealth. The effect on the viewer could be that they feel that the main character may have some other side to him other than the violent side that is shown multiple times.

There are many examples of editing within the trailer, one such example being the used of fast jump cuts towards the end of the trailer, I believe that this was used in order to build tension for viewer watching it also fits into the thriller genre.  Another example of editing is where they use slow-mo over a bon fire, I believe that this was used to reflect the characters state of mind in the current situation that there in. Another example of editing is where they use a fade from black, this is a rather under used editing technique so I feel like they may use this in the trailer to give the idea that the film maybe trying to do something different within its genre. Camera shot types are another thing to look at as there are many shown in this trailer, one such example is the use of an extreme close up, I feel that they used this in order to show the emotions of the character it focused on. Another example is where they use shot reverse shot when three characters are having a conversation, I believe that this has been used to show some form of relationship between the characters shot reverse shot can also be seen as an editing technique. There are also a wide array of different angles one such being the use of a low angle, I believe that this was used in order to show the characters dominance over others in the diegesis. There are also many uses of different types of camera movements within the trailer one such being the use of a tracking shot, this was used too follow the protagonist connoting that he is important to the plot. There is also the use of a backwards pan, I believe that this was used to show the emotions of several characters. We can also hear shouting multiple times in the trailer, I believe that this was used to show aggressive characters in the diegesis or perhaps to relate to the current situation the characters are in. We can also look at the use of sound in the trailer and one key piece to look at is the music used towards the end of the trailer, it is fast paced and is used to get the audience hyped for the film. Another use of sound is the sound of a gun shot I believe this was used to reflect the situation the characters are in but could also use to shock the audience as it is unexpected.
Genre
The genre of kill list is that it is a horror, we can tell this because it features conventions of the genre such as low key lighting and use of violence.
Audience
This appeals to the audience as it shows an interesting storyline and action without revealing to much to any viewers of the trailer.

The purpose of the Special forces trailer is to promote the film in question and to attract an audience to go watch it, based on what they have seen in the trailer.
Form
The form of this video is a film trailer for the film special forces directed by Stephane rybojad . It follows a non-linear path so that doesn't reveal too much of the films story.
Content and Meaning
In the special forces trailer we can see a variety of locations, one such location being a desert this could connote isolation and distraught. The effect on the audience could be that they feel maybe used as a metaphor for the mood of the characters in the film. Costumes are another important aspect to look at. When we look at the protagonists we see they are highly militarised  this could connote dominance and strength over other characters within the film. The effect on the audience could be that they feel certain characters are more dominant than others.

Within the trailer we see many uses of camera shots. Once such being the use of a wide shot. This could be used to establish the characters in a new location in the diegesis. We also see the use of a shot reverse shot, I believe this was used in order to show the tension between two of the main characters. We can also see the use of multiple editing techniques in the trailer one such being the use of a fade to black, I believe that this was used in order  to create tension for the viewer to keep them intrigued. We also see the use of explosions in the trailer, I believe these were used as they show a aggressive situation and are conventions of the action genre. Another use of editing techniques in the trailer is the use of a slo-mo effect I believe that this was used as it intensifies the combat and is another convention of the action genre. We also see the use of many different camera angles one such being a low angle, this is used in a conversation and may have been used to show how one character is dominant over another. Another use of a camera angle is the use of a high angle shot, I believe that this was used to introduce the audience to a new location in the diegesis. We can also see the use of multiple camera movements throughout the trailer one such being the use of a tracking shot, I believe that this was used so that the audience can follow along with the action this is often used in many action films. Another camera movement is the use of a pan, this is used to show multiple perspectives of the action and helps the action feel more real. We can also hear many effective use of sound throughout a trailer one example being a gun shot, I believe this is used to help elevate the situation in the film and make it more exciting for the audience.

The genre of the Special forces trailer is action. We can see this because it shows conventions of the genre such as guns, explosions and military vehicles.

Form
The form of this video is a film trailer for the film 71 directed by yann demange. It follows a non-linear path so that doesn't reveal too much of the films story.
Content and Meaning
In the 71 trailer we can see a variety of locations one such being the ruined streets of Belfast. This connotes loss and unrest as there are civilians rioting in the streets. The effect on the audience could be that they are curious as too see why there is unrest in the film and may want to find out why. Costumes are another aspect to look at. Within the trailer we see that the protagonist changes costume multiple times this could show the viewer that he is trying to stay hidden for some reason insinuating that he is on the run from someone.

We also see the use of different types of camera shot used in the trailer one such being a establishing shot this could be used to establish a new location to the diegesis for example in the trailer it establishes a new city to the audience. Another use of a camera shot is the use of a low shot, this is used to show a subordinate character in the diegesis and to the audience. We can also see the use of different editing techniques throughout the trailer one such being the use of a fade to black, I believe that this was used so that the viewer is intrigued to see what happens next in the trailer. We also see the use of multiple cutaways in the trailer, these are used to cut away from one piece of action to another I feel this helps the viewer interested in what's happening. We also see the use of the slow mo effect towards the end of the trailer and focuses on the emotions on the main characters face. We can also see many different types of camera angles throughout the trailer one such being a eye level angle I believe this was used to show the confrontation between two groups off people and make the viewer feel apart of the scene. Another use of angles in through the use of a high angle shot, this is used to show the pain of a character from the perspective of another. There also multiple uses of camera movements one such being a tracking shot this is used to follow the action in the trailer and make the audience feel apart of it. Another use of camera movements is a pan this introduces the audience to a new location within the trailer and also helps show some of the action to the audience. There are also key uses of sound throughout the trailer one example is the use of a gun shot, I believe this is used to elevate a tense situation and increase the level of action shown. Another is the sound of a character in pain, I believe this was used to show the emotions of the character without having him directly say what he's feeling and also helps the audience connect with the character.

This appeals to the audience as it shows an interesting storyline and action without revealing too much.

Purpose
The purpose of the four lions trailer is to promote the film in question and to attract an audience to go watch it, based on what they have seen in the trailer.
Form
The form of this video is a film trailer for the film four lions directed by Chris Morris . It follows a non-linear path so that doesn't reveal too much of the films story.
Content and Meaning
In the four lions trailer we see a variety of locations throughout. Once such being a city, the connation's of this could be security and modern. The effect on the audience could be that they feel like they can relate to the location of the diegesis as it is something we see in our normal day. Also the costumes of the characters in the trailer as these are also very modern and relatable to the diegesis so viewers will once again be able to relate to what is being shown.

Camera shots are something else to look at as there are a variety of them used. One such being the use of an establishing shot this is used to show a new location into the diegesis, this could intrigue the audience as they may want to see the effect this location has on the story. Another camera shot used is the use of a close up, this is used to show a piece of iconography being a bomb this could connote danger and intrigue the audience as to how this piece of iconography is used in the story. There are many examples of editing techniques for example the use of an action match this is used to show the same piece of action from multiple types of angles, this could connote distortion and terror while exciting the audience due to wide array of angles the action is shown at. Another is the use of shot reverse shot this is used in conversations between characters throughout the trailer this could connote tension or intrigue and it makes the audience feel that they are part of the conversation. Another use of editing techniques is the inclusion of a fade to black, i believe that they included this technique to easily transition from one location to another the effect on the audience could be that they are intrigued to see what location the trailer moves to next. We can also see the use of multiple types of angles throughout the trailer, one such example is the use of an eye level angle this is used during conversations with the characters, this could connote peace and equality between the characters the effect on the audience could be that they feel they are apart of the conversation taking place. Another use of an angle is the use of a high angle this could connote dominance and fear, the scene denotes a drone attacking the main characters so the effect on the audience could be that they feel the characters are powerless against the drone. There are also multiple examples of camera movements in the trailer an example being the use of a tracking shot i believe this was used in order for the audience to be able to follow the action, the effect on the audience could be that they feel like they are in the action. Another example of a camera movement is the use of a pan this is used during a conversation, i believe they chose to use this technique so that the viewer can connect with the character. There are also many examples of sound throughout the trailer one such being the sound of a gun, this could connote aggression and dominance the effect on the audience could be that they are excited to see the incoming action. Purpose
The purpose of the dead mans shoes trailer is to promote the film in question and to attract an audience to go watch it, based on what they have seen in the trailer.
Form
The form of this video is a film trailer for the film dead mans shoes directed by Shane Meadows.  It follows a non-linear path so that doesn't reveal too much of the films story.
Content and meaning
In the Dead Mans Shoes trailer we see a variety of locations throughout one such being a countryside village this connotes peace. This is effective as it is juxtaposed with the dark feel of the trailer to make a more familiar place feel more dangerous. The effect on the audience could be that they feel on edge as they may wonder why this peaceful location is mixed with a dark mood. The characters costumes are another aspect to look at. When we look at the protagonists costume we see him at one point wearing a gas mask and dark clothes. This could connote secrecy and danger. The effect on the viewer could be that they feel like he is in some sort of danger or perhaps he is the one causing it and therefore may be intrigued to find out more about the film.

Editing techniques are something else we will look at as throughout the trailer we see the use of many different types. One example is the use of a shot reverse shot when two characters are conversing. This is a effective technique  as it shows the show of power between the two as it shows one character (the protagonist) holding power over the antagonist. And this particular shot type is effective for this power exchange as it shows the characters different emotions throughout the dialogue exchange. Another editing technique used in the trailer is the use of a fade, I believe this was used to introduce the audience to a new location in the diegesis intriguing the audience. There is another example of a editing technique is the use of slo-mo I believe this was used to exaggerate the scene being shown, the effect on the audience could be that they feel something for the character shown due to the exaggeration of the scene. There are also many uses of camera shots throughout the trailer one example is the use of an establishing shot, this is used to establish a new location in the diegesis for the audience. Another use of camera shots is the use of a close up, this is used during a conversation between the protagonist and the antagonist, i believe this shot was used in order to show the emotion of the characters and the effect on the audience could be that they start to connect with the protagonist and why hes gone down this violent path. There are also multiple uses of different camera angles throughout the trailer one example being the use of a high angle shot this could connote dominance and aggression, the effect on the audience could be that they feel the character is more dominant than others. Another example is the use of a low angle, this is used to represent a surbordinate character the efffect on the audience could be surprised to see the character in question is know a surbordinate. Within the trailer we see many different types of camera movements one example being the use of a pan, this is used to follow the characters to a new location, the effect on the audience could be that they are intrigued to see what location they go too next. Another use of a camera shot is the use of a aerial shot this is used to show everything happening from a birds eye view, the effect on the reader could be that they are wondering what this location could mean for the diegesis. Throughout the trailer there are multiple types of sound throughout one example being the use of music in the trailer, this is very intense and adds suspense to the trailer, it connotes fear and aggression the effect on the audience could be that they are intrigued to find out more due to the gritty and fast paced nature of the trailer. Another example of sound is the sound of a person screaming, this could connote pain and agony, the effect on the audience is their exciting to see the oncoming action.

The genre of Dead mans shoes is a action thriller film this is clear as it shows conventions of the genre such as action, violence and mystery.
